Participants should arrive about 30 min prior to start time. Geared for beginners but
experienced kayakers will enjoy it all the same. We’ll provide the kayaks, paddles,
personal flotation devices, and land transportation.

There are 3 weeks left till the first Against the Tide in Hopkinton! Thank you to everyone who has registered, and best of luck on all your fundraising efforts.

Against the Tide asks that each individual raise and donate a minimum of $150 in order to participate. Also note that there is free breakfast and coffee served, free ice cream, and goody bags given out to everyone!

Why Against the Tide?

Against the Tide is a statewide, annual fundraising event to benefit the Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition and its goal towards breast cancer prevention.

Since its founding in 1991, Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition has been the ONLY national, or statewide organization to focus on primary breast cancer prevention. We see prevention as a cure!

Against the Tide consists of a one-mile competitive or recreational swim, two-mile kayak, or a three-mile fitness walk. It is a wonderful event to bring individuals of all ages and experiences together with a single cause- for prevention and eradication of the breast cancer epidemic.

Against the Tide will be held at Hopkinton State Park, Hopkinton, MA on June 20th, and again at Nickerson State Park, Brewster, MA on August 15th.

Essential Beauty's "Sun and Sole" event to benefit Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition!

On June 26th, from 2 to 6pm, Essential Beauty Hair Salon in Hyannis, MA will be holding an event called "Sun and Sole," offering customers a salon package worth $164, including: a brightening foil treatment, an UV defensive hair masque, a mini pedicure, and a make-up application to refresh the skin -- all for just $49!

All proceeds will be donated to the Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition and for breast cancer prevention.

A free screening of "Toxic Bust," a compelling and thought-provoking documentary about the preventable causes of breast cancer, will be taking place during this event. A representative of MBCC will also be present to hold a Q&A session with the interested participants.

Against the Tide updates

Preparations for each Against the Tide event are well under way. There are only few weeks left before the first Against the Tide at Hopkinton State Park, Hopkinton, MA on June 20th!

On Tuesday, May 12th, there was a free swim clinic held at Cape Cod YMCA for individuals willing to participate in Against the Tide.

And on Saturday, May 16th, there were two free kayak clinics held at Outdoor Recreation, Hopkinton State Park for registered participants of Against the Tide.

UPCOMING AGAINST THE TIDE CLINICS:
There will be two free kayak clinics on Sunday, May 31st, 3-6pm, at Plum Island Kayak (38R Merrimack St., Newburyport, MA) OR Salem Kayak (Willows Park, Salem, MA). Please call or email to register: ndaddario@yahoo.com or 339-927-4275.

There will be a free kayak clinic on Friday, June 12th, 5-6pm for beginners OR 6-7pm for experienced (bring your own gear), at Goose Hummock Shop (Route 6A, Orleans, MA). please call Goose Hummock at 508-255-2620 to register for clinic.

And lastly, there will be a free swim clinic on Thursday, June 18th, 5:30-6:30pm, at Cape Cod YMCA (Rt. 132, West Barnstable, MA). To register for the swim clinic, please email Ali: alicat44@comcast.net.

Kayak Clinic

Happy New Year everyone! We have hit the ground running in 2009 and are excited to share some news with you. We have a free kayak clinic scheduled on May 16th at Hopkinton State Park. We are still finalizing the details, but the date is set, so mark your calendars and come join us on May 16th. We will keep you updated on the details as they begin to finalize.

Featured in the video is Diane Sokal, former statewide committee member and top Against the Tide fundraiser. Diane shares her experiences with Against the Tide and the MBCC and tells everyone about the rewards of getting involved.

Also featured in the video is new MBCC intern, Silivia Tueros-Cossio. She discusses her involvement with ATT and the MBCC and why this is an important cause to her.

The interviewer is me, Katie Raines, and I am thrilled to be involved with Against the Tide for the first time as well.

Environmental Impact

There are studies that link exposure to radiation and synthetic chemicals to an increased risk of breast cancer. One such study is State of the Evidence 2006.

Against the Tide is the annual fundraisor for the Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition. It includes a competitive or recreational swim, walk and kayak to benefit to raise money for breast cancer prevention. Every participant commits to raising a minimum of $150 in tax deductible donations.
